Mrs. Cori Yakesh

My name is Mrs. Cori Yakesh and I am Greenbrier's  Developmental Preschool teacher. This school year marks the beginning of my 23rd year in education. I love being a preschool teacher and I truly enjoy working with this age group.

I graduated from NAU in 2001. I have a dual degree in Elementary and Special Education. I also have an endorsement in ELL and Early Childhood. After graduation, I went on to complete a specialized program through NAU with additional course work to earn my endorsement in severe/profound and low-incidence disabilities.

I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher and work with children. When I was little, my favorite game to play was “school”. I even had my own chalkboard and everything! As soon as I was old enough, I couldn't wait to start babysitting! After I graduated, I began working in daycares and tutoring for at-risk children. While I have worked in many different positions and schools throughout my career, preschool is my absolute FAVORITE!

I have been married to my husband for 20 years and we have 3 sons. Gavin is my oldest and he just graduated from high school. My middle son, Hudson is starting his sophmore year and my youngest, Easton will be in 8th grade. All three of my sons have gone to school at Greenbrier from the time they were in preschool (at 3 years old) through 6th grade, when they moved on to middle school.  We have two crazy, but very sweet dogs, Mia and Macy. Mia is our sassy, but very cute little weener dog. Mia keeps our goofy and super playful Belgian Mallinois, Macy in line. Our dogs are spoiled rottenand they have truly become part of our family.  When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. We like to go fishing, camping, all things football, basketball and playing cards or board games. When I have some time to myself, I enjoy reading, doing word searches and watching movies.

A fun fact about me is that I grew up in DVUSD and I went to Greenbrier the year it opened in 1984. I was in 3rd grade and loved my experience here. Once I left Greenbrier, I moved on to Desert Sky for middle school and then I graduated from Deer Valley High School in 1994. After completing my degree at NAU, I worked in another district for several years and returned to Greenbrier in 2009 when I accepted a special education teaching position. I have been a part of the Greenbrier community ever since.

I consider myself pretty lucky that I get to work with 2 amazing paraprofessionals, Mrs. Shawn and Mrs. Shell. Between the three of us, we bring over 57 years of classroom experience. YIKES! We are a strong team and we work very well together. We strive to create a positive and nurturing learning environment where children are excited about learning!  Children learn through interacting and making meaningful connections with their peers. Watching my students grow is the best part of being a teacher! We can’t wait to see the growth in this year’s incoming group of preschoolers!

We are looking forward to getting to know you and your child. Please reach out if you have more questions about the class or our program.
